Since November 1, 2023, a technological transition has been underway in the restaurant industry to replace the current mandatory billing system, the MEV, with an enhanced cloud-based solution: the MEV-WEB. 

This new system, already in use in the paid passenger transportation sector since 2021, aims to modernize the transmission of transaction data. It applies to bars, restaurants, food trucks, and other food service establishments.

Affected operators have until May 31, 2025, to adopt the MEV-WEB. By that date, they will be required to transmit their transaction data to Revenu Québec using this new system and provide each customer with a receipt generated by a certified sales recording system (SRS)

What's MEV

The MEV: The former mandatory billing system was a physical black-and-blue device placed on the merchant’s counter to record sales data. 

 The MEV-WEB: The new cloud-based system required by Revenu Québec for all food service businesses. It automatically transmits your transaction data directly from your payment system.
